DD-DXB01 EarbuDDs
The new dynamic element, xtra-bass earbuDDs from Digial Designs are the latest way to enjoy DD sound everywhere you go. We didn’t really find buds we liked so we spent the last two years working on some we did like, and earbuDDs were born. The gestation period was kind of long but we’re picky about what we listen to.
The EarbuDDs use one of the finest dynamic elements available in a CnC machined aluminum housing. This aluminum housing was engineered to expand and extend the low frequency response for those who really like their bass, a common malady afflicting worldwide populations especially in the sub 30ish, standard earth-year inhabitants. For those individuals who don’t understand that bass truly makes the world go round, we even integrated a solution for you.
Tunable Bass Response
The front side of the machined aluminum back chamber has 8 cylindrical vents to provide awesome bass response. We started with 3 vents and it sounded really good, so we tried 4 vents and the bass got even better. Then we tried 6 vents and things started really bumpin, so we went with 8 vents. Why mess around? In this configuration, the bass is pumpin and bumpin, or thumpin and jumpin or something to that effect.
In this research phase, we found we could tune the bass by altering the amount of vent area. Some people preferred the 3 vents, some 4, some 5 and so on, some liked completely sealed. So rather than use a ‘one size fits all’ mentality, we chose to let people listen in the way they like. There is no best way to sound; everyone has their own way, which is the best way if the way you like to listen is the best way and don’t accept that other peoples’ best way is the best way for you. Say that three times real fast!
Loud and Clear
The dynamic element we chose to
use in our tunable housing is one of the best available. These types of
elements are used in the high-end ear bud market and we don’t like to
use anything that isn’t the best. EarbuDDS have clear highs, smooth
midrange response and the extra benefit of playing really loud when you
want them to. The combination of a high end element coupled to a stiff
machined housing passes the acoustic energy through with the least
parasitic losses. Cymbals crash like you are on the drum rise, guitar
string plucks & strums sound as though you are next to the amp, and
vocals are so crisp that the hairs on the back of your neck could just
jump out of socket; True To The Source.

A Good Fit
We tried many different metals
for our housing, steel, brass and others sounded good but ended up too
heavy to stay put in athletic workouts. Aluminum kept our housing
stiffness high and overall weight low, making the DXB-01's perfect for
taking your mind off the pain and kicking those Endorphins in.
The ear pads seal out virtually
all environmental sound, keeping noise out and your sounds in. The
EarbuDDs come with three different sizes of ear pads to get your fit
just right.
The din plug is designed to fit
the latest connections, even the small diameter plugs required by the
company whose name is derived from a gravitational fruit experiment.

Tuning the
DXB-01 EarbuDDs
The low frequency
response curve of the EarbuDDs can be
altered by closing off vent area from the tuned rear chamber.
Supplied with the
EarbuDDs are two strips of adhesive-backed
foam tape located in the fishnet pocket of the carrying case. The
tape can be cut to different lengths and applied over the desired number
of cavity vents.
The cavity vents are
located under the earpads; 8 round vents circumnavigating the earpad
nozzel.
Reducing the vent area
lowers the Q of the tuning system, making the bass less prominent but
giving a tighter feel.
There is no right or
wrong to subjective tuning because what you like, is what YOU like.
While the overall
balance of the DXB-01 is smooth, different
music styles can benefit from some tuning, much like adding EQ curves on
your MP3 player.
With the
DD EarbuDDs, you
can alter the sound acoustically before adding equalization on your
player, giving you more options for what moves you.
